Throne details

I was inspired by ancient Hungarian patterns and motifs to create the throne. It's amazing what you find if you search in unexpected places. I was going to use Indian jewellry as my inspiration but then I found the motifs and got excited.

I'm currently busy with uni, but I have been trying to put more time aside for art, especially since I really really want to finish this piece. I have a lab report due tonight, another due tomorrow, lots of revision to do ... I'm a busy little bee with less time for boredom. I do enjoy uni though even though genetics and molecular biology isn't everyone's cup of tea.

And this blog needs a font change. The previous posts hurt my eyes when I try to read them D:

I feel like I've been abandoning my art for a while now ... no, I don't just feel that way, I know it's true! Life has been busy for me, and I have the feeling it will become busier still. I still enjoy painting and find pleasure in it, but I need to prioritise sometimes :)

The lady below is called Stelle who I created for a project. She's 28, rides a motorbike, and more.

Empress, Version 3

I'm horrible, aren't I? I just can't keep working on one picture consistently for long amounts of time. In the holidays I decided to scrap the other Empress concept and come up with this one. It's quite similar, but there's differences that I hope render it better. I can't work on this piece now, though, because I have uni ... :(

Old work, new colours

Today I was actually motivated enough to sit at my computer for two hours and scribble away on Photoshop. I found a very old piece called "Jaded Summer" on my harddrive and decided to remix it a bit. This is just a part of the old pic. I gave it weird colours coz I felt like it.

Empress, take two

Since uni's started, I haven't really had much time for drawing and such. I did a lot of speedpaints during the holidays, but in these past four weeks I've only done one very crappy paint. I was looking over my old Empress picture and realised that it was rather lifeless and stiff (thankyou symmetry!). Also, I have a problem where if I don't draw the arms beforehand, I have no idea what's going on with them in the picture. Hence, I had a problem. The old pic was about 65% complete, but I thought, "Hang on, I don't like where it's going ..."

So I decided to start afresh. In the new picture, I'm really trying to give the lady some personality. She looks rather arrogant, despite that I intend her to hold a rosary to her chest. I've also gotta work on backgrounds a lot more :( I have a thing for using blue-ish backgrounds these days, so that's staying <3

Some colorz

After some screwing around with the colours, I changed the scheme a bit to make things pop a bit more. Colours still need work though.

The below is a speedpaint I finished not even 10 mins ago. I'm posting it here because I'm unusually happy with it. It was really just a colour experiment, but it turned out quite nice. Ref of Olga Kurylenko used =)

It's about time I started working on this. The woman in the picture is my favourite character to draw!! She's just called the Empress for now. I'm really looking forwards to finishing this off!!

Influences:
- St Peter's throne
- Dune
- Star Wars
- Egyptian + Greek costumes

Gold is such fun to draw!! Right now it's a bit too bright, but it should be a bit darker and more rich in the final image. The Empress sure loves her gold, huh? :D

Other than that, it's effing hot here. I'm sitting beside my fan, wishing I had proper air con!!

This is a rough concept of a rather sadistic girl! Clothes were inspired by the Victorian era, but her dress is shorter for the sake of artistic license. Yes, that is a bird cage with a dead bird in it :)

Raven in leather!

Drawing of my long time character, Raven (who I named that before I knew it was trendy to call your goth charries that). I'm kind of going back to her roots here. Over the last years I've really steered her clear of this look, but meh, who cares. I think leather is kickass! Yes, if I finish the pic, she'll have a sword.

I wanted to see whether I could draw a good looking zombie or not. This guy started off looking so mild (ie. my friend called him a "zombie fanboy"). It was a chance for me to try out a different skintone too.

Wow, I'd pretty much forgotten these. I'll have to finish them sometime this later (more like, completely redo them though). I guess I've come some way since I did these. This was when I began grasping how colours worked.

I was aiming for a manlier Cloud here. I'm sick of seeing him drawn as a girl. And Squeenix, wtf were you thinking when you guys made Cloud girly T_T His lips seem so soft though ... and his nose looks springy! *squeeeshes Cloud's nose*

Tifa. How I hate her. My hate manifested in the form of her disgustingly puffy lips! The only thing I like about this are the colours, and the eyes. I drew her first, because I was thinking "I'll just get better as I go on drawing". She's half-decent here, although her face is shaded too flat. It's such a noob thing to do, to be scared of some real hardcore shading x_X;; Or maybe the shading reflects the depth of her character? *is shot by Tifa sympathizers*

Poor little Aeris. I never got around to finishing her. I lost motivation after I realised how f'cked up her facial proportions were! That nose ... *shudders*. Yeah, I think I draw better noses these days =] I do like the colours I had for her here.
