Empress, Version 3

I'm horrible, aren't I? I just can't keep working on one picture consistently for long amounts of time. In the holidays I decided to scrap the other Empress concept and come up with this one. It's quite similar, but there's differences that I hope render it better. I can't work on this piece now, though, because I have uni ... :(

Old work, new colours

Today I was actually motivated enough to sit at my computer for two hours and scribble away on Photoshop. I found a very old piece called "Jaded Summer" on my harddrive and decided to remix it a bit. This is just a part of the old pic. I gave it weird colours coz I felt like it.

Exam time is almost here, must go study *sniffs*

Empress, take two

Since uni's started, I haven't really had much time for drawing and such. I did a lot of speedpaints during the holidays, but in these past four weeks I've only done one very crappy paint. I was looking over my old Empress picture and realised that it was rather lifeless and stiff (thankyou symmetry!). Also, I have a problem where if I don't draw the arms beforehand, I have no idea what's going on with them in the picture. Hence, I had a problem. The old pic was about 65% complete, but I thought, "Hang on, I don't like where it's going ..."

So I decided to start afresh. In the new picture, I'm really trying to give the lady some personality. She looks rather arrogant, despite that I intend her to hold a rosary to her chest. I've also gotta work on backgrounds a lot more :( I have a thing for using blue-ish backgrounds these days, so that's staying <3

Some colorz

After some screwing around with the colours, I changed the scheme a bit to make things pop a bit more. Colours still need work though.



The below is a speedpaint I finished not even 10 mins ago. I'm posting it here because I'm unusually happy with it. It was really just a colour experiment, but it turned out quite nice. Ref of Olga Kurylenko used =)

Finally some real work ...

It's about time I started working on this. The woman in the picture is my favourite character to draw!! She's just called the Empress for now. I'm really looking forwards to finishing this off!!

Influences:
- St Peter's throne
- Dune
- Star Wars
- Egyptian + Greek costumes

Gold is such fun to draw!! Right now it's a bit too bright, but it should be a bit darker and more rich in the final image. The Empress sure loves her gold, huh? :D

Other than that, it's effing hot here. I'm sitting beside my fan, wishing I had proper air con!!

Evil girl :O

This is a rough concept of a rather sadistic girl! Clothes were inspired by the Victorian era, but her dress is shorter for the sake of artistic license. Yes, that is a bird cage with a dead bird in it :)
